As well as coordinating Women In Motion in 1996, Rita Cattoni has been involved with WIFT(victoria) for a number of years; during 1997 and 1998 she was theSecretary on the WIFT(victoria) Board before serving as President from late 1998 until mid-2000.

Originally teaching Adult Literacy and ESL, Rita did a one-year Postgraduate course at the VCA in 1995. Whilst she has worked in various jobs connected to film and television Rita does not really consider herself as being 'involved' in the film and television industries.

Her involvement with WIFT(victoria) coincided with her desire to work with women on her graduating film project at the VCA. Rita remembers originally hearing about WIFT (victoria) whilst still at film school, after a suggestion at a VCA industry day for women filmmakers to consider joining WIFT(victoria):

"...I went to the Christmas Party that year and started doing volunteer work." (Rita Cattoni 2000)

Having done some volunteer work at WIFT(victoria) and worked with other members on projects, Rita applied for the Women In Motion coordinators position when it was advertised in the paper.
